DIRECTIONS UNDER ORDER 43 RULE 4(2) OF HIGH

COURT (CIVIL PROCEDURE) RULES 2012:

 ANNUAL VACATION FOR THE YEAR 2018

 

The general public is hereby notified that in compliance with the provisions of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012, The Honourable Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice E. F. Ikponmwen has directed as follows:

 

  1. That the Annual Vacation of the High Court of Justice of Edo State shall commence on Monday 30th day of July, 2018 and shall end on Friday the 22nd day of September, 2018 both days inclusive. Full judicial activities would commence on the 25th day of September, 2018.

 

  1. That during the Annual Vacation, there shall be:

 

One vacation Judge in the State who shall sit in Benin Judicial Division, to entertain only urgent civil, revenue and criminal matters.

 

  1. That the matters to be entertained by the Vacation Judge during the period, shall be fresh matters of utmost urgency filed during the Vacation and not connected with matters already pending in the Courts.

 

  1. That the Vacation Judge shall be Hon. Justice M.O. Ighodalo of the High Court of Justice.

 

  1. That cases pending before the regular Courts may however be heard by the leave of the Honourable Judge in charge of that Court and by the consent of Learned Counsel to the parties.

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI SIGNS BILL GRANTING FINANCIAL AUTONOMY TO STATES JUDICIARY

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday 8th June, 2018 assented to the constitution fourth alteration bill which grants financial autonomy and independence to the Houses of Assembly of the respective states and to the Judiciary of the respective states.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Friday.

He said “Therefore, upon this signature, the amounts standing to the credit of the judiciary are to now be paid directly to the judiciary of those states and no more through the governors and from the governors.

“And then the amounts standing to the credit of the Houses of Assembly of the respective states are now to be paid directly to the Houses of Assembly of that state for the benefit of the legislators and the management of the state Houses of Assembly of that state. This grants full autonomy now to the Houses of Assembly and judiciary of states.

 

ANNOUNCEMENT: DEATH OF HON. JUSTICE TIMOTHY UKPEBOR OBOH

It is with great sadness that the Edo State Judiciary announces the passing on of His Lordship Hon. Justice Timothy Ukpebor Oboh.

Until his death he was a serving Judge of the Edo State Judiciary sitting at High Court 1 Auchi.

This is a great loss to the Edo State Judiciary. Our though and wellwishes go out to his family and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
