Hon. Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin has been sworn in as the 7th Substantive Chief Judge in Edo State
The new Chief Judge was sworn in by the State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki following the retirement of the immediate past Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Esohe Ikponmwen.
While performing the swearing in ceremony, the governor commended judicial officers in the state for remaining unsoiled despite operating at a time when the judiciary is facing an integrity crisis.
He was thankful that Edo has not recorded any incident of suspension or dismissal of a judge by the National Judicial Council on account of corruption and implored all judicial officers to maintain the record
The Governor however tasked the new Chief Judge who he termed as haven faithfully served as a Judge in the state, to further ensure speedy dispensation of justice and to strengthen the state’s magistracy.
In her response, the new Chief Judge Hon. Justice Edigin, who promised to work with other judges in the state and other arms of government to ensure effective dispensation of justice, also said she will prioritise staff welfare, especially the magistracy and join the Governor in his fight against corruption in the state’s judiciary.
She further urged the executive arm of government on the implementation of financial independence for the judiciary in accordance with section 121 sub-section 3 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
